Celebrating 30 years of ministry

30 years ago, Dr Michael Youssef – a pastor who trained for ministry at Moore College in the 1970s – was called by God to start a local radio ministry in Atlanta, USA.

It was a calling that would not only change Dr Youssef’s life, but the lives of countless people around the globe, as that radio ministry became Leading The Way, a global movement reaching millions for Christ.

Today, Leading The Way utilises every form of technology – including satellite, radio, television and solar-powered audio bibles – to broadcast the Gospel in over 190 countries, over 13,000 times a week, in 26 languages.

This year, Leading The Way is celebrating and giving thanks for what God has done for the past 30 years – including reaching the unreachable and multiplying the underground church.

When Leading The Way first reached the Muslim world in 1996 with its dual-language radio program, many Arabic speakers not only learnt English –  they learnt about the Truth of the Gospel:

“At first, I listened to your radio program to learn English, but later your programs started to touch my heart. Now I have accepted Christ in my life” — Listener from Turkey

Today, this dual-language ministry broadcasts in 26 of the world’s most spoken languages, including Indonesian, French, Mandarin, Farsi and most recently, Bulgarian.

James Hinchon, the International Content and Navigator Manager of Leading The Way, says that “Broadcasting is such a powerful tool, and Leading The Way is committed to high quality programs delivering our key message – the Gospel of Jesus Christ to every nation, tribe and tongue around the globe”.

That same key message reaches those without radio signals through solar-powered Navigators, which feature the audio Bible and Dr Youssef’s sermons. They are ideal for those who are illiterate, blind, refugees, lepers, without electricity, in closed countries, and in underground churches.

Leading The Way further advanced the Gospel with the launch of THE KINGDOM SAT, a 24/7 satellite channel that shook the Muslim world:

“I was a radical Muslim and I believed in jihad and killing anyone who does not follow the laws of Islam. After watching THE KINGDOM SAT . . . I wanted to tell you that I have decided to follow Jesus” — Viewer from Morocco

Today, THE KINGDOM SAT reaches 160 million Muslim homes, with field teams accommodating the ever-growing response from viewers seeking Christ. Over the years, those field teams have expanded to provide personal evangelism and discipleship, distribute Navigators, equip disciples to strengthen the underground church and help the persecuted.

When God called Michael Youssef to start Leading The Way 30 years ago, no one could imagine how mightily God would work through this ministry. Radical Muslims are coming to Christ, unreached people groups are responding to the gospel and the underground church is growing.

From a small local radio station in Atlanta, to a global ministry that has now expanded to offices in 6 countries – Leading The Way is a 30 year old testimony of God’s faithfulness and global vision to further His Kingdom.

“Let this, our 30th year of ministry, be a yearlong celebration of the faithfulness of God to us as a ministry. This is not about celebrating our joint accomplishments or achievements. First and foremost, this is a celebration of thanksgiving to the Lord – a chance to show Him our gratitude for who He is and all that He has done” — Dr Michael Youssef

Leading The Way broadcasts every week in Australia.
