Brad is the National Director of Welcome to Australia, and the Lead Pastor at Activate Church.

Where do you live and go to church?

I live in West Croydon, South Australia and I am a part of the Activate community that gathers on a Sunday morning in Bowden, South Australia.

What was the first book of the Bible you ever read?

Genesis – my Grandad bought me an NIV Study Bible and I started reading from the beginning.

Name a Bible character you resonate with and why.

I am often drawn to Paul’s self-reflective writing, “What a wretched man I am! Who will free me from this body of death?” and “I beat my body and make it my slave… so that I myself will not be disqualified from the prize.”

What’s one thing from the Bible that’s stuck in your brain at the moment?

“I have learned the secret of being content in all circumstances…”

Name one part of the Bible you keep coming back to again and again and why.

As above. Because I want this to be a lived reality in my life, and in my family, rather than a nice aspirational concept.

Describe one of your Bible reading failures and what you learnt.

What is a Bible reading failure??

What advice would you give someone struggling to read the Bible each day?

You don’t need to read the Bible each day. Relax.

And just for fun, if you were a monster what would be your defining feature?

Side burns you can see from space.

You can read the Bible with Brad Chilcott for two weeks from June 28 by signing up to Bible Society’s Daily Bible email service, sending you a short Bible passage and reflection every morning to your inbox. Brad will be exploring how we can become apprentices of Jesus.
