Best 10 Christmas Videos of 2014

Every year Eternity does a round up of the best Christmas videos floating around the web for churches to play in their Christmas services. Here are our picks for 2014!

Quiz Worx – Mary and Immanuel (2014)

A paper-cut animation telling the story of God’s promises to be with his people from Mary’s point of view. This is one of the best videos out of Australia this year. Would be good to show in a kids’ spot at church.

Salvation Army – The Christmas Story (2014)

A Christmas video that taps into our desire for real connection. Would be good to kick off a Christmas service.

Pentatonix – Silent Night (2014)

For your listening pleasure, the a capella group Pentatonix have recently released their Christmas album. Their version of “Silent Night” and “Mary, did you know?” have been very popular on social media.

And here are some more from the last few years that we think are pretty special:

University of Cumbria Chaplaincy Christmas Video – Immanuel (2013)

A remix of popular Christmas carol “O Come O Come Immanuel”. A Chaplaincy intern at the University of Cumbria in the UK worked with friends and colleagues to produce this modern take on a classic carol.

Tim Parsons – O Little Town of Bethlehem (2013)

From the creator of the now famous Christmas videos from St Paul’s Auckland, this video is the story of the birth of Jesus told by the people of Bethlehem. Could be shown during a Christmas service.

Igniter Media – A Social Network Christmas (2010)

This clever video is an artistic take on how the nativity story might have played out on social media. Could be played as people come into church for a Christmas service.

Hour of Revival – Christmas in Dark Places (2013)

This is a video from an Aussie now living in the UK, and his references to an Aussie summer are not lost on us. But regardless of whether we’re here or there, the message is still the same:

“Our summer’s gone, if you’ve been around,
you’ve felt the fall: life’s run aground.
We’ve gone up in the world, seen summer die.
So what’s our hope? The dark defy?
Stoke the hearth? Retreat indoors?
Rug up warm with you and yours?
The shadow reaches even here,
But THIS is the place for Christmas cheer.”

Lifepoint Church – Upside Down Christmas (2011)

A clever word video. It’s hard to explain just how it works, but watch it and see! Would be good for the beginning of a Christmas service.

Igniter Media – Jesus and Santa (2007)

They both have beards and several nicknames, and often, we get caught up hoping that they both bring us everything we want. Could be good to play as people come in to church and sit down.

Igniter Media – The Christmas Scale (2012)

For a little bit of fun, listen to Willie Minor tell you how the best news in the world is found by playing a simple scale on the piano.

For other Christmas video ideas, Sydney blogger Steve Kryger on Communicate Jesus has also compiled a list here.
