The toll of violence, the leap of unfaith, and the box for babies: the news you might have missed

The 2014 World Watch List was released this week, reminding us of the worldwide toll inflicted against Christians for their beliefs. But this article from the Economist pointed out that sometimes religious violence can destroy books too, and the legacies of wisdom within.

Speaking of legacies, this beautifully animated video presents a short sweep of the history of Christian mission, a welcome reminder that so much mission, and so much gospel work is because of just a few people standing up in faith, to inspire a movement.

Somewhat less inspirational is this story from CNN, about a pastor who “decided to give atheism a try for a year” and seemed surprised when he lost jobs at Christian schools as a result.

As the article says, “How does someone pretend to be an atheist? It’s not like a hat you wear to see if it fits.” Faith, after all, finds a way to emerge into action.

And that’s certainly the case in this last video. We finish with a trailer from a documentary film called The Drop Box. The film is about a Korean pastor, and the box? That’s where the babies go.
