How Eternity is covering Australia's 2022 federal election

On our Election 2022 page, Eternity readers will find links to the three largest political parties’ policies, media releases from NFPs, advocates and charities, along with relevant articles we have published – all organised under topics that we know Australian Christians are interested in.

A federal election season can seem like a whirlwind of parties, policies and promises, making it hard for even the most diligent voters to figure out where best to cast their vote. Which issue should a voter prioritise? How much should a party’s leader be taken into account when voting for a local representative?

And for Christians, the decision can be even more complex. What does the Bible say about issues of government and public policy and how do its values compare to secular parties? Should we even expect to see our Christian values reflected in a party’s policies when any individual representative is elected to represent a group of people, most of whom are not Christians?

Unlike many of the voices vying for Australians’ attention right now, Eternity is not a political lobby group or an advocacy organisation.

Unlike many of the voices vying for Australians’ attention right now, Eternity is not a political lobby group or an advocacy organisation. Our agenda is simply to publish Christian news, news that Christians are interested in, and Christian perspectives on the news.

We are in the blessed position of being supported in that work by our advertisers, donors and by Bible Society Australia, of which we are part. As a result, we do not face the editorial pressures of other media outlets to report stories that bring in big advertising dollars. While we want our articles to be read and shared far and wide, we have the freedom to avoid sensationalism and clickbait – a wonderful space from which to write news at this time in history.

That means this election, Eternity has no intention of publishing an article on every event on the campaign trail that is in some way relevant to Christians.

Instead, as a small team, we will choose to cover as many newsworthy developments as possible. In addition, we will write and source opinion pieces when the contribution can provide a helpful or different perspective to what is already “out there”.

This election, Eternity has no intention of publishing an article on every event on the campaign trail.

To complement this coverage, we have pulled together a range of resources, organised with Australian Christians in mind.

On our Election 2022 page, Eternity readers will find links to the three largest political parties’ policies, media releases from not-for-profits, advocates and charities, along with relevant articles we have published – all organised under topics we know Australian Christians are interested in. As a team, we will be updating this as often as possible during the campaign.

From the outset, we acknowledge this page will not and cannot include every relevant link that every Christian will hope to see included. Aussie Christians are a diverse bunch and a project like this is bound to leave someone unhappy! (As does every article we publish).

However, we do believe it will be a useful and helpful resource for the majority of Eternity readers and we will continually add to it as we receive new links.

And, if there are links you think we might want to consider adding, you can message us via Facebook here.
