'If I had sought God’s will for my life ... then why was life so hard?'

Sita’s story | Lord, what do you want to teach me today?

“I came from a Hindu family, so after I accepted Christ, I was rejected from my family and my village. Because of that, I couldn’t study… and for a time, I had no work.”

“I often wanted to know why. If I had sought God’s will for my life, and if I had responded to him, then why was it so hard?

“Later, I married and together with my husband, we shared the gospel full-time. But then our son became ill with kidney problems. He was so unwell and we needed antibiotics and we had no money. We were both doing full-time ministry. We didn’t even have money for a urine test.

“I couldn’t do anything. I still asked why. But later, I saw that God could do it. That’s when I began to learn that God is sovereign over everything, every time, everywhere. Hebrews 4:13 says that, ‘Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.’ That’s what God is like. He knows everything, even all of our struggles. And every day, he cares.

“So, every day, I need to ask God, ‘What do you want to teach me today?’ That’s the most important thing. It’s more important than ‘why’. What does God want to teach us, today? Back then, God provided for our son [through friends at church], but I still have to ask the same question, every day, on easy days as well as hard days. ‘Lord, what do you want to teach me today?’ And also, I think that if we don’t struggle, how can we help anyone else?”
