tobyMac: Australian Christian radio’s favourite artist of 2012

American singer tobyMac has just been crowned ‘king’ of the Australian Christian music charts after scoring dual honours for Song Of the Year and Artist Of The Year for the first time.

The Rock Across Australia (Australia’s official national Christian music chart) has announced that tobyMac’s Me Without You secured the most airplay of any Christian song on Australian Christian radio in the past year.

Me Without You spent a total of 30 weeks in the survey, dominating the top spot for 13 consecutive weeks, plus securing a position in the Top 10 of the weekly survey for 25 weeks. That’s 83% of its chart life.

Toby says the song looks at the importance of God in one’s life. He says that he wrote the song from the perspective of who he might be without his faith, instead of who he is because of it.

As well as Song of the Year honors, tobyMac’s taken out the award for TRAA Artist of the Year as well.

He previously garnered this as member of the group dc Talk in 1999.

In the past year however he’s certainly stood out on the chart with multiple entries – four as a soloist, and two as a featured act with other performers.

His solo hits were: Me Without You , Changed Forever, Steal My Show and Start Somewhere.

No other artist came close to achieving the same level of airplay on Australian Christian radio in the past year as tobyMac.
