Carrie Underwood made a worship service out of Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry, performing a medley of gospel hymns including Amazing Grace, Great is Thy Faithfulness, How Great Thou Art and The Old Rugged Cross.

Just over an hour ago – Sunday, April 18 in the US – at the ACM (American Country Music) Awards, Underwood combined the songs from her latest chart-topping album, My Savior. She performed them with gospel music great, CeCe Winans.

My Savior features classic Christian songs, also including Blessed Assurance, Jesus Loves Me and I Surrender All. The album has received critical acclaim since its release late last month. The album recently topped both the US Billboard’s Country and Christian charts, and came in at No. 4 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart.

“This is not a country record. This is a Christian record” – Saving Country Music

“This is not a country record. This is a Christian record. However, along with turning in her first volume of exclusively religious material, Carrie Underwood might have also delivered one of her most country records yet,” Saving Country Music reviewed Underwood’s album.

Underwood – herself an ACM nominee for Video Of The Year, for a collaboration with John Legend on the song Hallelujah – performed at the iconic country music venue in Nashville, as so many country stars have done in previous awards shows. But this year’s ACM Awards had significant differences, due to COVID-19 precautions.

The event was spread across three Nashville venues – the Opry, Ryman Auditorium and The Bluebird Cafe. Nominees were rotated in and out of the floor seats, so the camera could catch them when their categories came up, while the majority of the audience was made up of vaccinated, invited medical workers who were socially distanced in the large balconies of the Ryman and the Opry.
