Penshurst Anglican Church (“PAC”) is a multiethnic and multilingual church, English speaking and Mandarin speaking. Over the past 10 years we have focused on becoming a united community respecting our diversity, but united in Christ. We have two pastors, one of whom is bilingual English/Mandarin speaking. Our services are conducted bilingually each week.

Ukraine crisis as Russia invades

The Children’s Minister will lead a Family Ministry Team within the Parish to find ways of drawing families from diverse cultures and backgrounds into the Kingdom of God. We are looking, preferably, for a female who will become the Pastor or Family Minister.

Initially the focus will be to transition our Sunday School to the Godly Play program so it will be attractive to young families from the community looking for their children to be taught Christian values. Our Sunday School program has approximately 45 children ranging in ages from pre-School to High School. PAC also has a large number of young babies and toddlers attending crèche each week.  She will also support and encourage our own young parents as they train up their children for Christ.

Job Description

The Children’s Minister will preferably:

  • be trained in Pastoral Care, Children’s Ministry or Chaplaincy;
  • be experienced in multi-cultural ministry; and
  • be able to communicate in both English and Mandarin.

The Children’s Minister will manage various aspects of programming for children including, but not limited to:

  1. Planning, coordinating, and executing Godly Play Children’s program and other Kid’s Church programs.
  2. Recruiting, training, leading and supporting Children’s Ministry volunteers.
  3. Providing Pastoral Care and developing a Care Ministry to:
    • Encourage, enable and equip leaders and children to live in relationships of mutual care and support;
    • Communicate with parents and provide the support they need for spiritual leadership at home; and
    • Provide care for children and families within PAC.
  4. Managing check-in procedures and tracking weekly attendance of those attending Children’s Programs.
  5. Ensuring all leaders and volunteers in Children’s Ministry have completed and are up to date with their Safe Ministry Training.

  7. Developing annual budgets, goals, and strategies for his/her area of responsibility with the input of the PAC leadership team and provide clear communication with regards to progress, results, and obstacles.

One of our longer term visions is to introduce a Women’s Ministry to PAC. An increase in hours would reflect the increased duties of the role to address issues such as mental health, intimate family violence, family relationship difficulties and women’s spiritual needs, both within and beyond the church community.

The initial position is 3 days a week, including Sunday, with possibility of expansion. Remuneration will be according to the Diocese of Sydney Guidelines for the Remuneration of Parish Ministry Staff for 2019. Statutory Superannuation as required by law. Pro rata annual leave and other leave will be worked out with the PAC Treasurer. A review will be conducted after a three‐month probation period with further reviews to happen annually.
